COUNTY HOTEL (To the left of the Theatre Royal) The Theatre Royal remains,
but the hotel was demolished in 1975. The whole area is now known as
the "Royal Centre."

For some unknown reason, Laurel and Hardy didn't play at the Nottingham Empire on the 1947 Tour, but did appear there on the two which followed.
In 1952 they opened on the Easter
Bank Holiday Monday. Then in 1953
spent the Christmas/New Year season there. They stayed at the nearby County Hotel. And when I say "nearby" I mean "nearby." To gauge just how near it is, just match up the six columns of the Theatre Royal which is sandwiched between the County Hotel on the left, and the Empire Theatre on the right. |
