One would think that Stan Laurel would have insisted that he and Oliver Hardy play Carlisle, Cumbria, on all their stage tours, so he could visit his hometown of Ulverston. But Laurel and Hardy played it just once, in 1954, at Her Majesty’s Theatre, in Lowther Street, and stayed at the County Hotel, 9 Bothchergate. |
